We had a good January trip to Santo Clinic in Haiti, mild temperatures and more hours of electricity than usual made for a very comfortable stay. We were able to see about 750 pts in 6 clinic days and we welcomed 2 new doctors to our little project. Drs Bob and Teresa (Terri) Brennan are friends of Pat and Moira from Lynchburg, Virginia and have been to Haiti before but this is their first trip with Santo Clinic. They adapted to our system from day one and we had really good clinic days. We were short on translators but ‘Plan B’ is always a part of any Haiti adventure. Jean K. was with us this trip, she is a registered nurse from the hospital in Onamia, Mn and has been with us before when we were still in the Santo district. She was able to help Rodney in the pharmacy and did all of the lab tests we ordered and helped out with a number of our OB patients.
We are seeing a lot of returning patients, Sr Diane is keeping the charts and we are able to track some of the patients, especially the patients with high blood pressure. Sr Diane is a treasure and we really could not do this with out her ‘boots on the ground’ and guidance around the villages that we serve.
Next trip is the last week in April and will include Drs Tom, Pat and Moira, all have multiple Santo Clinic visits over the years and we should have a great trip.
Thank you to everyone that has supported us over the years, and to the amazing response to the Cholera epidemic that was reported after the hurricane. I did not find much cholera but the donations are being used in the Santo Clinic project and it makes everything so much easier when there is adequate funding.
