I finished reading an amazing book called Six Months In Sudan, by Dr. James Maskalyk. Not everyone will find it as "amazing" as I did. It spoke to me. He talked about the difficult places on this earth . Sudan with its harsh conditions, the sick babies, the endless amounts of time and energy it takes to make even subtle changes. Subtle differences that few will ever notice. HHHmmm, so why do it? Why spend time, energy, resources, personal vacation, and hours of planning, preparation and sweat to go to a place that seems to have had some of these problems for longer than I've been alive.
Are you still reading?
You can't change the world if you don't try. Call it a leap of faith but I have seen what a few people working together in one community can do. Although I may have stumbled upon this place with just my good intentions or lack of common sense (as some may think). It has grown and flourished in a way that I had not thought possible. Haiti and the Santo community are in my heart and their future is yet to be determined. I for one hope to make all of the subtle changes that I can here.
